Service Technicians Job Description
(Residential Electrician)
Job Summary:
A Service Technician repairs electrical equipment and systems in residential and commercial settings. As a Service Technician you troubleshoot electrical problems and install new wiring or other components to fix lighting, fuse boxes and generators. Service Technicians must be experienced in different devices and systems and can inspect, diagnose, and fix malfunctions in all of them with the highest level of Customer Service. Service Technicians are required to rotate On-call duties for emergency after hours calls.
Job Responsibilities:
- Directing or training workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
- Maintaining current electrician’s license or identification card to meet government regulations.
- Troubleshooting electrical components, wiring diagrams, transformers, motors, panels, and circuits.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, and lighting systems.
- Ensures and complies with electrical codes.
- Inspects electrical systems to determine whether repairs are needed.
- After hours on call for emergency calls.
Job Duties:
- Quotes/Estimates
- Work start-completion
- Collecting payments from customers
- Trouble shoot electrical problems.
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment or fixtures.
- Installation of new wiring, fuse boxes
- Generator maintenance/Install
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment, wiring, and lighting systems.
- Test electrical devices and provide on the spot solutions.
- Perform preventive and routine maintenance on electrical systems and warn management about potential hazards.
- Install safety components and connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks.
- Follow electrical codes and standards for ultimate efficiency and
- Availability for On-Call duties (rotated weekly through all Service Technicians).
Job Qualifications and Skills:
- Drug free at all times
- Ability to follow electrical code manuals to install and repair electrical systems.
- Experience working with hand tools power tools, electronic test equipment.
- Strong knowledge of job site safety as well as ability to complete a company specific safety orientation.
- High standard of integrity and professionalism
- Excellent Customer Service
- Proficient in the use of test meters and other diagnostic equipment.
- Proven experience as an electrician
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver’s license
- Understanding of safety procedures and legal codes and guidelines
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Good time management
- Detailed documentation into software to provide for customer invoicing.
- 2-3 years residential, commercial, or industrial electrical experience.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring.
- Prolonged periods, standing, kneeling, bending, climbing ladders or scaffolding.
- Must be able to physically capable of pulling wires and cables through conduits.
- Must be able to lift to 50 pounds at a time.
